Reinvent yourself to a better life! 

When we reinvent, we also upskill. When we reinvent our wardrobe style, our weight, our fitness, our eating habits, hobbies and relationship habits, we upskill them to something new. Hopefully it is something better. 

Upskilling is hard work. Unconscious living is easy. We know how to do what we are already doing. 

You may want to upskill your life because:

  • You want different results to the ones you currently have
  • You want to be better
  • You want better health, more energy, more vibrancy and aliveness
  • You want to be a better communicator – to express yourself with better words
  • You want to be happier deep within
  • You want to be more loving
  • You want to have more appreciation and to feel fulfilled

 To get different results, we cannot live unconsciously. We need to think about it and to learn new patterns and habits.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t just happen by osmosis. We can’t read a book and expect it will happen overnight. It takes hard work. 

Upskilling at work is to learn new skills about your job so you can keep your job. It’s investing in your future. 

How to Upskill and Reinvent your Life

  1. Pick an area where you want to improve
  2. Get a good idea of your desired outcome – know what you want
  3. Find a good picture that inspires you. Have a good positive picture of what you want to do. Search for images online. Print them off in color.
  4. Research latest information around that topic. Find a book that has good ratings and was recently published. Go to your library and search for knowledge on your subject. Ask Google but beware that not all information that you find will be right. Search for ideas around the exact topic that may lead toward further ideas.
  5. Keep track of all major new ideas and facts. Put them into a folder and group together in a format that is easy to look at and understand. A mind map may help to do this, or a large sheet of paper. These ideas are your reasons why you should change and how others have done it.
  6. Find a few new ideas you want to try out, and treat it as an experiment for three months. Turn it into a game. “Gamify” it.
  7. Define precisely the things you are going to do (limit it to 3 things – these are steps – don’t overwhelm yourself)
  8. Write each one down on a small card, like a business card
  9. Find a picture that means something to you, that represents that idea for each card and print them off. Attach them to the plain side of the cards, so the words are on the other side.
  10. Picture in your mind, how your day will be tomorrow, (or today), and how you will do the new thing and when, precisely.
  11. Set up triggers that will be reminders. When you get up in the morning and turn on the coffee machine, it can serve as a trigger to do some squats, or to list 3 things you appreciate, or to write a note to give to the people in your life before they walk out the door that morning. Let the coffee machine be the trigger to do the thing you want to do.
  12. Find other triggers. Don’t over do it or you won’t remember. Maybe place a Post-it note to help remind you, until the pattern is set.
  13. Go through your cards several times a day. Keep them in your purse or somewhere that you access throughout your day and quickly go through them to remind yourself and help up-skill your brain.
  14. Say the words out loud, not just in your mind.
  15. Keep the big picture of your desired outcome in a place where you can see it often. This is the new version of you – your next transition. 

Sometimes we only see the difficulty, so we reject the hard work. Instead, see the new outcome, the new competence and the feeling of self-respect for your ability. Set up ways that will positively affect your mind to support you on the days you struggle. Set up the triggers and in 3 months you can re-evaluate and find what worked best. Hopefully, you will be inspired to take step toward the next transition.
